Biography
Cheryl supports Dr. Mattew Siljander & Dr. Taylor Dunphy in the operating room, clinic and hospital. A California native, Cheryl completed her bachelor of science in biology at UCLA and later trained at Wake Forest School of Medicine PA Program in Winston-Salem, NC. She previously worked as an emergency medical technician on the ambulance and in the emergency department where she discovered her interest in orthopedics through treating trauma patients.
Growing up, Cheryl looked forward to doctor visits and was always amazed at how they could explain her ailments with a deep understanding of the human body. As a result, she became fascinated with anatomy and physiology and found a niche working in orthopedics, which also translated well into her weightlifting hobby. The more Cheryl has worked in orthopedics, the more she has grown to love the field and values her ability to help her patients return to a healthy and active lifestyle.
Cheryl is an active member of the California Association of Physician Assistants and has received her National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). In her spare time, she likes to practice yoga, surf, and hike. Cheryl is a fan of all sports but mostly plays tennis.
Cheryl's Healthcare Philosophy
I focus a lot on patient education because I believe fully understanding the cause and symptoms of a particular condition can help patients understand their treatment options. My ultimate goal is to provide quality care to those who want to return to an active lifestyle as I believe being active is the best medicine for overall health.
Cheryl's Areas of Expertise
Cheryl primarily works on hip replacement and knee replacement patients. Although much of her work is focused around surgical treatments with her supervising orthopedic surgeons, she can diagnose and treat numerous hip and knee conditions. She often performs conservative treatments such as cortisone injections for knee pain and collaborates with physical therapy to provide multidimensional care.
