Orthopedic Surgery During COVID-19

NOI Continues Elective Surgeries & Procedures Through New COVID-19 Stay at Home Order Issued on December 6th.

Providing Expert Orthopedic Care with Safety First

  • Staggered appointment times to ensure patients are able to maintain 6 feet social distancing.
  • Daily temperature reading of staff, physicians and patients as they enter our facilities.
  • Limiting contact and wait time with At-Home Appointment Check-In & Registration.
  • Requiring patients, staff and doctors to wear face coverings¹ to help prevent the spread of the virus.
  • Telehealth Appointments offered by phone, tablet or computer, allowing patients to be seen where ever they feel most comfortable.

Continuing Orthopedic Surgeries & Procedures

At Newport Orthopedic Institute we realize that staying at home doesn't mean your orthopedic conditions have stayed away as well. As many have shifted to working at home and trying to keep busy, you may have found yourselves doing more projects around the house or resuming your favorite sports outside. And, as a result, you may have aggravated a pre-existing orthopedic condition or had a recent sports injury — requiring expert orthopedic care.

Newport Orthopedic Institute will continue to offer regular orthopedic care and surgeries through the regional stay at home order announced on December 3rd and signed on December 6th. As always, we will continue to provide expert orthopedic care while putting patient safety first.

We understand that COVID-19 has caused some patients to delay their orthopedic care. We can safely see patients at our offices with the additional safety measures we have put in place.

NOI will continue to follow best practices laid out by truest government agencies such as the CDC, the Orange County Health Care Agency and the World Health Organization. We are also offering Telehealth Appointments to pre-existing patients.

¹ Due to limited supplies, NOI will be unable to supply masks or face coverings to patients. If no mask is available, the patient will be asked to reschedule their appointment.

Pre-Op Patient Screening & Testing Protocol

If surgery has been deemed necessary by your board certified orthopedic surgeon, we have been working with Hoag Orthopedic Institute to develop and implement these additional safety measures to protect patients, physicians and staff in accordance with CDC and other regulatory guidelines:

  • Patient Pre-Op COVID-19 Test: This test must be completed 3 days prior to surgery followed by self-isolation / home quarantine until scheduled surgery date.
  • Patient screening: This screening follows CDC guidelines and includes taking the patient's temperature, health and travel history.
Patients can also complete the CDC's COVID-19 Self Assessment Test Here.
  • Visitor restrictions: All non-essential guests are asked not to accompany patients in order to limit the number of persons within an enclosed area. If a guest is deemed to be an essential care-taker for the patient they must also meet CDC screening guidelines. Be sure to review Hoag's Helpful Information about COVID-19.
  • Online Pre-Op Classes: We are offering online pre-op classes to assist patients and caregivers to prepare for a successful surgery and recovery. Hoag Orthopedic Institute is also has additional patient education resources such as handouts and videos as well.
  • Limiting personnel in the Operating Rooms
  • Screening all staff members and doctors upon entrance to the facility as well as requiring masking, temperature and social distancing rules.

While COVID-19 has brought about necessary changes to ensure the safety of our community, we feel that Newport Orthopedic Institute is doing what we can to serve our community and help alleviate hospitals and traditional urgent care facilities by doing what we do best — offering exceptional orthopedic care to Orange County.
